Dinner Hall Meeting

Talia turned and looked at H'ton actually she had been younger than Ryoko when she had taken over the running of East Cliff and she had had to look to H'ton for a lot of help in those first turns.
"Remember if you set stuck turn to the older riders they will know how to go about things

“We where only being a bit loud “ T’vin said hoping that was not to much of a transgression to get him sent to Top Point.
“My mum would not let K’ttack send me there” He said looking at the two girls.

Timov looked round for her son seeing him over with Zi and Astra.
“He was not that badly behaved for my parents” she said

“Most likely because your parents kept a close eye on him and he had their attention most of the time. Here he has to compete for attention and also has several lads his own age to compete with.
You said you oldest brother’s lads are nearly grown and your sister only has girls his age and a baby boy and your younger brother has just started a family. Not many lads for him to compete with” S’ren said finishing his meal he had the cup of win in his hand he offered the skin to Timov and K’ttak

Timov refused she had felt sick this morning off to much wine the nigh before, that reminded her what she had to do tomorrow she had got side tracked this morning.
“There where hold boys” Timov said pointing out.

“Not the same kids need siblings or cousins to fight with or plot, plan” S’ren said looking to K’ttak for his point in this.

K’ttak shook his head “I’m not saying anything on this, if you remember is said my half brother tried to kill me, by spooking my runner and leaving me out for threads so i am staying well out of this” he said excepting the wine S’ren offered he noticed Timov was not drinking.
“You ok?” He asked her. He know the East Cliff wine did not sit well with Timov but this was a different make a Southern wine and not half bad.

“They might do, H’ton is in a really bad mood” Zi said wanting to wind T’vin up a bit.

“Na my mum wouldn’t let them and I’m still a weyrling and not as half as much trouble as you two brothers are Zi” T’vin said licking his finger clean off the red fruit he ad just ate.

“Ok so you are the exception to that” S’ren said to K’ttak he had heard the story when he, Timov, K’ttak and Weyrwomen Talia had sat together drinking and talking about their families.
“Saying that i forgot to tell you something, i meat your half brother when i was out on search for some candidates. His forman did not look to happy with him.”

Timov hugged K’ttak “I’m fine just still getting over this morning” She said to him.
Timov didn’t like not telling K’ttak what she though had made her ill, but she did not know how he would react. Well she would know tomorrow when she saw the dolphins.

H’ton turned to Ryoko “Don’t worry you will do well, you are a gold rider and can do nothing but” he said sencing that he needed to say more on this or he would not here the end of it from Talia.
“And we are here if you needed help”

K’ttak looked up “Was he with beast’s or mining?” he asked hearing what S’ren said. he once had the odd desire to take Dornth with a load of firestone and flame all the land his half brother had. Though he know it was being petty that.
K’ttak hugged Timov close to him, he still didn’t believe her when she said she was alright, but he would not press her to tell him.

“Ah but don’t they like to catch them young and get it out of them before they start to cause to much trouble” Astra said picking up on Zi’s attempt to wind T’vin up.

Zi nodded “Like a young Runner or Canine, knock the bad tricks out of it when its young so it wont do them when its older” She said

“And when did you know stuff about Runners or Canine’s?” T’vin asked looking at Zi who he know was Weyrbred, so she had not grown up around the creatures like he had. So for her to say something like that was a bit of an eye opener for him

“Mining i think, they weren’t getting much out of the hole they had dug and i think that’s what had his man annoyed at him.” S’ren said he had not hung round to long, he had asked for the lord and he had been told that he was busy, but if he was really wanting to push his luck he could try the lords son.
S’ren had decided not to, from the man’s tone “Your Half bro does not like dragon riders does he?” he asked as he had got that impression from the man

Timov looked at K’ttak for a moment they did not really talk about K’ttaks family much as she always know it was something he never liked to talk about and it was from the fact that he never mentioned them.
Herself on the other hand went on and on about her family and the things they did and said.

“Ah he’s digging in the wrong place again” K’ttak said drinking the wine, he knows the spots where his brother liked to try and mine.
That had always been K’ttaks calling to mine the land while his half brother worked it and K’ttak had found a place rich in precious stone’s, but he had never told his half brother.
He had wanted to wait till he was old enough to set out on his own and he would have started with that place and make something of himself instead he had gone to the weyr to impress.

“Since i started hanging around with you and K’ttak told be bits” Zi said holding her head up high as she was pleased she had surprised T’vin with her knowledge.

“Now come on lets keep it nice, the last thing we need is for you two to start fighting. The weyrleader looks mad enough as it is” Astra said pointing up to the table.

Zi looked to where Astra pointed “I don’t know he looks a bit cooled down now Ryoko is talking to him. Wonder what she said to him that Talia didn’t” Zi said

Timov looked at K’ttak “Again? I thought after on attempt you left a mine if you couldn’t find anything or it was unsafe” she said only knowing the bits she had over heard people saying about the craft.

“Ah…see why his men where not happy with him” S’ren said K’ttak had not answered his question on whether his half brother like dragon riders or not.
“Mind he didn’t look to keen on seeing a dragon and rider turn up” S’ren said trying to find out another way.

Rio had finished her meal and was picking at the fruit on offer, she listened to the others talking and she was starting to get board and fidgety. She felt a bit left out as Talia and H’ton where paying all the attention on Ryoko.
She know it was important for Ryoko to find out all she could about how to run a weyr and everything as she would be Weyrwomen when her dragon rose to mate.
But she wished there was something that she could say or ask that would get her involved in the conversation rather than just listening.

“H’ton wouldn’t go after Ryoko would he” T’vin asked looking up at the high table.
“I mean there’s a big age difference” T’vin said not knowing if a weyrleader could go after another gold and make her the weyrwomen or not.

“16 turn between them but only 15 between H’ton and Talia” Astra said to T’vin but the idea of a weyrleader ruling two weyr was a bit preposterous.

Zi shook her head “Na, Talia’s queen is senior and the only way H’ton could have Ryoko as his weyrwomen is if his Bronith got out flown by another, on Quinith next flight and he caught Jizeth in her’s, but the chances of that is one in a 1000 and no one would take the bet it would happen.
H’ton love’s Talia and Talia love’s him” Zi said eating the fruit it tasted nice to night and she sucked the juice off her fingers.

Talia realised they had left poor Rio out of all of this, she had a right to be involved as it would be her job to help Ryoko in running the weyr and it might be hard for Rio to see the role she was to play in all of this.
“And you will have Rio to help you out, Ryoko” She said turning and smiling at Rio.
“I hope your ready to for the big task” she said

K’ttak looked at S’ren and then at Timov.
“He most likely though it was me coming to get my dragon to burn his field or something, petty like that. No my he does not have a clue about mining. my father set the land up so that on his death i would get the lot but a part would got to my half brother and that was the farming part, not the hills and caves where there is good mining” K’ttak said smiling

S’ren looked at the weyrling master “Take it your brother does not know about this?” he asked thinking he knows the answer to his own question.

“Because he would have never asked you, would he?” Timov said getting the way K’ttak had got back at his half brother for trying to kill him.
He would not think to ask K’ttak if he had ever searched the area in the caves and from the Map Timov had seen they where a bit out of the way to just spend days looking around that could be spent in the field working.

Rio turned to look at Talia, she wondered if the weyrwomen had read her mind.
Rio nodded “yes mama, I am very ready to be of any help i can to Lady Ryoko” She said looking over at Ryoko

T’vin took a bit of fruit “It could happen. I mean you don’t know what could happen in the next flight” T’vin said he had been listening to some of the older riders talk about it a few time’s.
“Isn’t it true that it’s not who the riders want it who the weyr wants to be the weyrleader” he added looking to Zi she had grown up in the weyr so if any on know about this she would.

Zi looked narrowed eyed at T’vin “In the old day’s yeah, but i mean H’tons not the most likeable weyrleader but the weyr prospers under him and Talia’s rule’s and who would replace him? I don’t think Talia would want anyone else to be with her and who else’s dragon could catch Quinnith at that speed she fly’s at?” Zi said no she couldn’t see the weyr willing another to be the weyrkeader.

“Sephiroth might, that’s a very fit bronze that” Astra said Villarith would rise soon and Astra was not sure who she wanted her to be flown by and would she have a chose on who caught her.

Zi burst into laughter “And his rider’s not bad”

K’ttak shook his head “nope, never told him or my father. Use to take a runner and go up around the cave’s and find things and left them for when i could take hold of that bit of land, but then my half brother had to spook my runner and leave me out for threads, but he didn’t count on a sweep rider grabbing and taking me to the weyr.
He wasn’t too happy when the rider brought me backing to collect something’s and tell my Father i had been searched.
My half brother was jumping for joy at that as he would get all the land, but hasn’t away with the people like i had. He thinks you can just charge in and people will do as you ask” K’ttak said laying it out for S’ren, he wasn’t hatched yesterday he know what his fellow brown rider was keep asking and he hope that was plain enough, for he and his half brother did not get on at all, like flame and threads.
But K’ttak also had another thing to get up his half brothers nose he mined up in one of the cave. Yes he only got a small bag of stone’s ever now and again but it meant he could, trade them for something in the smith hall or have stuff made. His most resent commission was for a dress knife and belt for Timov.

“Wow i know me and my brothers, sisters cousins and half relatives, didn’t get on or like each other at time’s but we never stooped to doing things like that to each other.” S’ren said not believing what K’ttak’s half brother had tried to do.
Oh he would keep an eye on that one he could cause trouble.

“Yes, but your brother doesn’t know you still mine bits up there” Timov said smiling liking the way K’ttak was getting back at his brother, with out bloodshed.

T’vin let out a grown as the two girls dissolved into laughter.
“Trust use lot to start thinking about things like that” he said trying not to sound too huffy about the whole thing.
But girls did laugh about silly things at silly time’s

Talia patted Rio’s arm, “good to hear” she said knowing Rio and Ryoko where both up to the move to Top Point.

Astra laughed at T’vin’s reaction “I don’t know it think he like’s Desimae” Astra said looking over to where Desimae sat with B’hamut.

Zi followed her friends gaze.
“At least he’s talking to someone, he keep’s hiding in the record room this past few days since the Top Point queen died. Seams everyone wants to pay attention to now”
