Dinner Hall Meeting

"Would you mind if Greenrider Desimae came with me?" The question was adressed to H'ton, but Ryoko's attention remained on her food. Several small pieces of fruit were placed onto a fork and then into her mouth, and only then did she look up. It wasn't towards the Weyrleader, however, but out into the dining audience. A few of the residents recieved a friendly, close-lipped smile and nod when they glanced in her direction.

The woman shrugged, swallowing before she answered. "I took what I was dealt." What was done was done, and she took no shame in admitting that she had once been a drudge. B'hamut's question, however, brought a smile to her face. "I never mentioned my brother, but it seems his reputation proceeds him." Chuckling, Dee shook her head. J'kol was well-known whether he liked it or not- Weyrleaders were known by everyone, even Monaco's. "But no, I Impressed Vireth the second time around. He Impressed to Fetrith within a few sevenday's of being at the Weyr whereas I had to wait two Turns."

I was totally worth it.

“I think we can spare Desimae and Vireth” Talia said looking along at H’ton. She knows that it would only cause a miner disruption to the wings, but with the weyrlings nearly ready it was a place that could be quickly filled.
“Is there any other riders you would like to join you on going to Top Point?” Talia did not know if Ryoko had any preferences on any male riders she would like to go with her.

“Doesn’t prove a thing” S’ren said as he ate.
“Just means she is still sore over his bumbled defence of her honour” S’ren said

Timov sighed “I would not say bumbled, if you recall Rio’s brother came of worse in the fight with B’hamut and rightly so Dragon folk look after their own. Rio’s brothers thought they would just have their sister to deal with instead they ended with having to deal with a bronze rider and two greens and a brown” Timov said giving K’ttak’s hand a squeeze.

“and the fact that fact that Aerith let out such a cry of worry that the whole weyr responded to it in a flash” S’ren said adding the last bit on as even his own dragon Elbereth had responded to the new queen’s cry 2 turns ago.

“Personally i think she was embarrassed by the whole thing, as a gold rider she is held at a higher standard than the rest of us. The best that we can hope for is that they become friends” Timov said eating a few bits of meat.
“and she’s going to another weyr any way, so not having to see B’hamut and have a reminder of what happened will help”

“Yeah, but hers and Ryoko flights are going to be open so B’hamut can take part if he wants. She’ll get a large shock if Sephiroth catch’s her Aerith and he might just do it.
I had a pop up to that weyr and that lads Bronze has a high reputation for catching even the most determined green.” S’ren said he had talked to a few riders after he had landed, he had not got the warmest welcome, till he pointed out he was not staying.

Timov growled “Do you have to think of things like that. H’ton may stop him going as he’s from that weyr” Timov said wondering why S’ren had to think of these things.

“Someone has to and Ryoko and Rio’s dragons are from here, so there is no reason under the sun H’ton can stop him” S’ren pointed

Rio sat down “I’m fine; it has taken me a while to get some of my things packed for moving to Top Point. I did not realise i had so much stuff” Rio said eating he meal before it got cold.
Rio listened to the conversation, as the junior she didn’t really expect to get much say on what was happening. When Ryoke asked for a small request, Rio thought of the worst that she may ask for a few bronze riders to come with them, but she breathed a sigh of relief when she said Green rider Desimae. That wasn’t to bad another girl to go to the weyr with, girls had to stick together.

H’ton looked over at Talia, there she went again making the decisions.
Then again it had not really been a certainty Talia said they think they could spare a green rider, which they could. It would not make a big difference in the weyr.
“If she is willing to go than i think we can see to letting her go” H’ton said.

“Oh…em…. Well I’ve spent some time in the record room and i read who your brother was” B’hamut said
“Bit like me i impressed second standing”

Ryoko's shoulders visibly relaxed and a smile flashed across her lips as soon as she swallowed. "Oh thank you, thank you so very much." The excited expression was shared with Rio, and a slight wave of her fork was her greeting. She hadn't been able to get to know her fellow goldrider as well as she had liked, but there would be plenty of time for that later. Returning her attention to the Weyrleaders, Ryoko's smile slimmed down to a pleased grin. "I'll be sure to let you know if I'd like some other riders. Quite frankly, I don't think too many are willing to go."

Desimae grinned and raised her mug to her lips. She loved to tease, and B'hamut was no exception. She replaced her mug after a few sips. The juice was sweet, and it complemented her fruit wonderfully. "I guess so. Second hatchings must be lucky, or something." Dee paused, taking the time to sample another piece of the aforementioned fruit. Swallowing, she continued. "So- what do you like about East Cliff?"

H’ton nodded his head “Yes its said there are very few who are ever willing to go to Top Point, most are sent there”. H’ton said to Ryoko.
“Your queen will have her work cut out for her in her fist few months, she had to get all the young dragons under her control”

B’hamut felt himself go a bit red, he had realised Desimae was teasing him.
Over the turns B’hamut had learnt to grow a thicker hide, when people called him or teased him and he had learnt to take a joke.
“I think it has to be that its warmer here then at Top Point and you don’t have to break the ice in the lake to get your dragon to wash.” B’hamut said laughing at that memory.
Another good memory was The Reflection Valley a beautiful place to see at sunrise, when you say the light bounce off all the ice and make such a wonderful light show. May be he would pop up to Top Point and show Desimae the valley.

Rio didn’t know if there was anyone she wanted to come with them to Top Point, truthfully she didn’t know whether she wanted to go up to this cold Weyr, but she had said yes to going as it would make her junior werywomen and not just a junior, junior weyrwomen and Rio liked the though of that.
Though truth be told Rio had never though she would be a Gold rider, she had thought she would be a green rider and that would have made her just as happy or just to be able to stay in the weyr, but when Aerith broke her sell and came over to her, her gold hide all shiny, Rio started to think that maybe she could be more than what she wanted to be and no one could tell her ant differently than that sweet golden voice.
With all that thinking she quickly checked on her dragon who she had left a sleep, but was now awake and on her ledge

Rio was glad at that, but she wondered why her dragon was out on her ledge.
<”What are you doing?”> she decided to ask and find out

<”Talking to who?”> Rio asked knowing it would have to be another dragon as dragons could not talk to other riders or people unless they chose to.

[glow=9000ff,2,300]” Sephiroth” Aerith said and waiting for her riders reaction [/glow]

Rio had to stop herself from shouting out.
<”Why are you talking to him?”> Rio asked not happy in the least.

Rio held in a sigh <”My love he wont remember that”> Rio said knowing dragons had bad short memory’s

[glow=9000ff,2,300] “He says he does and so does the little cousin. They have told me of a lovely spot to got, to get warm. It looks nice.
He is a nice bronze” [/glow]

<”Don’t get any idea’s, there is no way he is catching you”> Rio said no way was she going to have B’hamut as a weyrmate.

Oh this was rich getting a lecture off who liked who from her dragon and she didn’t care if B’hamut didn’t like her, he never talked to her anyway or anyone else for that matter.
She looked over the tables and saw B’hamut sitting talking to a girl… the nerve of him… who was she anyway.

Well so she was meant to take instruction off K’ttak not B’hamut

K’ttak resolved to stay out of Timov’s and S’ren’s little bickering fight.
It was like sitting with a bunch of weyrlings.
K’ttak sat eating his meal, till Dornth sent him a message telling him that some weyrlings where mucking about out side.
K’ttak got up heading out to the entrance to see what they where doing.
<<”Dornth tell them, pack it in and they are to come see me for double chores to morrow”>> K’ttak said to his dragon to pass it on.

Zi sat with Astra in the corner eating their meal the subject was something quite different from the transfer of the two Queens, theirs was about Gather dress’s.
“Yeah, but Astra I’m no good at dresses i can sew riding gear no problem but a dress it’ll come out a mess” Zi said

Astra let out a sigh “And i have said it will help you, all you have to do is pick the cloth and then stand for the fitting and pinning. I’ll do all the rest, i use to make all my own stuff and my brothers and sisters” Astra said

“Yeah but i got all my brothers hand me downs “ Zi said helping her self to some fruit.
“Fine but don’t stick the pins in me like my mother does” Zi said laughing.

“I wont” Astra chuckled knowing Zi did not like the normal girls stuff.

Talia laughed “I think you will have more people wanting to come here” Talia said sipping the wine in her glass.
She turned to talk to Rio but saw her eyes had that unfocused look that came when a rider was talking to there dragon.
When Rio’s eye’s re-focused she said “Your dragon chewing your ear about something?”

Ryoko couldn't help but chuckle. "It'll be good for her. She needs a challenge, it might teach her a thing or two." The young woman shook her head with a smile before placing a few bits of meat into her mouth. All trace of tension had disappeared, and the junior weyrwoman was in a much better mood. "I appreciate your concern, however, but I think they'll be dying to prove themselves before she Rises." The joke was one she and Dee had been trading for a few days as a way to relieve the fear of leaving their comfort zone.


"I'll have to what?! Oh Faranth, there's no way Vireth's getting a bath every other day if I have to crack the ice. Shards no." Desimae laughed and pushed her empty plate to the side. "Is there anything warm up there?" To think, she had left the warmest place on Pern for Top Point! "How do the dragons resist frostbite?"

“I do not know about that, remember a lot of the young riders up there have not gone there by chose and a few will want to grab control to change a few thing there, but it is the queen who has to keep the power, she must stop some of them from going between to other places or other time’s” H’ton said this was not going to be a easy weyr to run.

B’hamut laughed “I’m not joking, the lake will defrost in the late spring, but even then it’s not that warm” B’hamut said sipping his drink.
“There is one place the dragons go to keep warm” he said.
B’hamut searched for Sephiroth’s mind

the bronze responded quickly to his rider.
“Hello Vireth, my mine had asked me to show you this to pass on to your rider. They are getting one well”

<<I have done so, also Aerith know where to go there she likes it. Told her we went there the day her mine not be nice to you>>

“Oh not her” B’hamut muttered he had had enough of Rio to last him a good few turns. She had been a nightmare that day, telling Aerith to ignore Sephiroths instruction. She had made him that irritated he had told K’ttak we was just going to go as it was just going to cause an accident.
He had actually gone to the Reflection Valley as he found it calm and warm there and he had gone back up there a few time’s.
B’hamut realised that he owed Desimae an explanation of the image she was going to get.
“Its called the Reflection Valley, the dragons go there to get warm, its also nice to see at sunrise” He said

Timov looked round when K’ttak got up and went to the entrance and came back.
“Something wrong?” She asked having a good idea it would be some of the weyrlings up to something.

Rio went slightly read.
“Just asking her how she felt about us moving to another weyr” Rio said trying not to look to guilty for not paying attention.

She sobered at the thought of someone not listening to her, and she could feel Jizeth's temper stir. She was queen, and they would listen to her whether they liked it or not. Especially if they wanted even a glimmer of a chance at catching her when she Rose. Woe to any who disobeyed her. A glimmer of a smile pulled at Yoko's lips. Ever the firecracker, her darling. "You are correct, H'ton, but I still cannot wait to go. I'm glad that it's going to be hard- I don't want a Weyr that just lays down and does my bidding. I want feedback from my riders, suggestions, anything that will make me better. When I grow as a person, so do they, and only then will we show Pern how good we've become."

Spoken like a true Weyrwoman. Well done, my heart.

Thank you Sephiroth- is it very warm in the Valley? Vireth paused to pass the image on to Hers. Hopefully it was warmer than this place. Otherwise Desimae was going to Top Point by herself, shard it all.

The hazel eyes went glassy when Vireth sent her the image, and she gasped. "It's gorgeous." She never thought she'd see a more beautiful picture than a sunset over the ocean, but there it was in her mind's eye. "Oh thank you-" A grateful smile lit up her features; it was comforting to know there was going to be beauty in the coldest place she had ever been to. "-but that still doesn't change the fact that it's going to be cold. Then again, compared to Monaco, everything's cold."

H’ton nodded his head “Well said” maybe Talia had done a good thing by choosing Ryoko to go and become the Weyrwomen of Top Point Weyr. She had the power and will that was needed as a Weyrwomen, bit she also know that she could not make it all be done on her own.

B’hamut smiled “it’s a lovely, its all dark and then you see the first few ray of light come over the ridge and it hits off one lot of crystal ice after the other and the place starts to light up and the cold of the morning starts to melt away” B’hamut said but felt even his words where not doing the valley justice

K’ttak sat back down “Just some of the weyrling mucking about, making a nuisance of them selves” he said not going to tell Timov one of them was her son as he would cop it twice over.

Talia smiled she was very impressed that Ryoke was going there knowing what lay in store for her and how much trouble would be waiting for her as she would have to chose wisely who she wanted to be the Weyrleader as the wrong on would lead to devastating results.

T’vin stuck his head round the door, shards he had just got a telling off by K’ttak, well via Dornth.
Shard it he couldn’t go sit with his mum now as she was sitting with K’ttak, he hope K’ttak wouldn’t tell his mum.
T’vin looked round for somewhere to sit and grab something to eat.
He spotted Zi and Astra and crept over to join them “Don’t look at me and don’t turn to speak to be just act like i was here all the time” he muttered grabbing a bread roll.

Zi looked at T’vin “You haven’t been making trouble have you?” She asked looking at T’vin, she hung around with him a bit but sometimes him and the other lads could be really silly and cause trouble and get them into trouble with K’ttak and the Weyrleader’s and H’ton was not in a good mood any way.

“Your asking for it if you have they may send you up to Top Point with Ryoko and Rio, bet they will get a guard going up there” Astra said to T’vin

Zi laughed “yeah and they are both open flight’s this is going to be interesting.

“Oh not my son is it” Timov she asked K’ttak knowing T’vin was getting just that bit out of hand lately with some of the other male weyrling’s.

Rio ate her meal, wondering what role she would play in this weyr.
She know Ryoko was going to be weyrwomen and Rio was her, but other than that what was she going to do at the weyr

K’ttak was not inclined to give Timov the name’s of the weyrling’s who had been mucking about, but yeas one of them had been her son, but K’ttak would not hand her son over to his mother for another telling off just on something as trivial as being a sharding bit to silly.
“If it was and i told you, you would only got tell him off and he’s going the get a good punishment anyway, as i am going to have them clean the latrines” K’ttak said, Timov was a good parent and her parents had brought T’vin up well and K’ttak had seen worse behaved weyrlings than T’vin

"Thank you, and I appreciate your concern. I suppose I'm considered very young for such a place of responsibility." Finished with her meal, Ryoko pushed the empty plate away from her and reclined back in her chair, mug of juice in her hand. "And I'll be watched even more closely because of it." Shard it all.

You knew that from the beginning- we both did. Don't ever doubt yourself love, or we'll fail.

"Thank Faranth. If there was no saving grace to that Weyr, I'd stay right here." She smiled and sat back, much in the same position as her best friend. "Thank you for that. Spending six Turns in Monaco has made me come to love the warmth, and offering to transfer to a place of ice has made me somewhat reluctant to go through with it."

“You are no older than Talia was younger than yourself when she became Weyrwomen” H’ton said though he was 15 turns older than Talia and had help her start through most of the hard time’s, but Talia had impressed at a younger age and had had more time to learn how to run a weyr.

“This weyr is not exactly tropical” B’hamut said, but he did not have much to judge the weyr by not being to many other
