The night air was frigid as Zaira slipped out of her weyr, folding her one arm tight across her body to ward off the cold, the other holding a glow to light her way. She had been told to expect freezing temperatures, especially at night when Rukbhat had set and stole the little warmth to be had at Top Point. And yet no amount of talk could prepare her for the reality. It was so cold her eyes watered and nose stung with it. **Thank Faranth I'll be able to soak in the heated baths without being disturbed soon.**
She knew it was a crazy venture, heading to the bathing pool in the middle of the night. But she had had no time during the day, what trying to sort through the dusty old hides. And having spent so much time in the Record Rooms lately she felt as if the musty, dankiness of the place had seeped into her pores so much so that she was sure she stank of old hides.
It was with relief that she came across the entrance to the bathing rooms, thankful she had not become lost and fated to wonder around the Weyr in the freezing cold. The steam that rose from the pools wrapped around her like a blanket and she smiled at the simple pleasure of feeling warm again.
Quickly she removed her clothing, making sure to grab the bag of soapsand out of her tunic pocket, and left them in a messy pile off to the side of one of the pools. Zaira looked around the room thankful that no one else had thought to come for a late night bath also. It was not that she cared about being seen, shards it would not be the first time she had been caught out, but it was peaceful and quiet. She would not be expected to make small talk, which was a relief after the long day she had.
Zaira stepped into the water, placing the soap sand on the edge, and then lay back, floating gently on the surface. The warm water felt so nice against her bare skin, auburn hair streaming out behind her. She could almost drift off to sleep like this, the water buoying her body gently.
