Talia sat at the table writing a letter to send to her parent’s and then maybe she would send one to Nilla and E’lric. She wondered if he had heard the news from this side of the world?, most likely he had and that was most likely why she had not seen or heard from her big brother. Her weyr mate and he were not on good terms at the best of times and Talia had made things in the weyr just that little bit more intense. Well why shouldn’t they help the weyr they flew with and didn’t Top Point take on some of the trouble’s of the other weyrs Their Queen had been old when Top Point had 8 turns ago and with the weather the way it was up there the old Queen had not flown long enough to produce a clutch with a Queen egg. Talia had only just impressed Quinith and then 5 turns later Talia was made Weyrwomen and H’ton Bronith had flown Quinith and he had become Weyrleader. Just because he was Weyrleader did not mean he could make all the decision for this weyr, Bronze, brown, blue and Green where his main concern and he should leave the Gold to her and things were getting very crowded in that area. Over the last 4 turns Quinith had produced a Gold in every Clutch and Talia thanked the first shell Quinith would tolerate 2 juniors, but that was growing close to the breaking point. As they 4 junior and 1 already flying and one was nearly ready for her first flight and the youngest belonged to Riobhne or Rio as she liked to be known and her dragon had just started to learn to fly and go between. So thing would not work out better East Cliff had to many Queen’s and Top Point didn’t have even one. So Talia had thought H’ton was being very hide bound about the whole thing. Why was it the Weyrleader could not willingly work together or do another weyrleader a favour. “Men” Talia muttered under her breath, if all the Weyrleaders where like her brother E’lric who always could find a way to work something out and negotiate round a problem.

H’ton stormed up the steps to his and Talias quarters That women had done it this time, how could she make such a decision with out checking with him first. He was Weyrleader and what he says goes. Not Talias word alone. He entered their quarter’s he could see his weyrmate sitting at the table they used for eating at and so some of the work for the running of the weyr. He saw writing tools out, he could not see the little blue firelizard Talia owned, and it was most likely curled up with Quinnith. But he thought all the list’s from the last tithe train was all in and accounted this morning. He walked over to the end of the table where a jug of wine and some glasses where set out waiting

Talia heard H’ton Stomp up the steps “shards couldn’t that man walk any where” She thought to her self. She watched him enter the room and serve himself a cup of wine. Talia hoped that was his first as she could not stand H’ton when he was drunk. She wouldn’t share his bed ether if he was drunk. She would go and sleep in one of the guest room’s in the weyr or take a spear sleeping fur and go sleep with Quinith. Talia always found it comforting to be closer to her dragon, when she was having a bad night. E’lric had once said it was like a child with a comfort blanket or toy. Talia had thought that was silly way to think, she was a grown women but after E’lric had pointed out to her a bit better. That even as adults they still had things that comforted them, favourite clothes, boots ete’ ete, but in the case of the riders most found comfort in being close to their dragon and he openly told her he did. Talia resolved to start writing a letter to Nilla while H’ton had the first few sip of his wine. Talia was a fast and neat writer, she always had been from being a child, and the hold Harper had been very impressed. When she was a good paragraph in she looked up at H’ton “You’re not still storming over the two gold’s are you?” Talia asked knowing to well he was

H’ton sipped the wine, this was his first cup, he had refused a cup in the dinner hall, as he know Talia would not stay in the room long when he was drunk and at the moment he needed to talk to her sober. Which really he couldn’t blame her there, he didn’t like himself when he was drunk and when he was drunk he found it easier when Talia was not there. He know Talia’s reason was because on her dragons first clutch hatching he had got very drunk and Talia, who has very young at the time, she was 15 turns his junior. She had tried to stop him making a fool out of himself and H’ton had accidentally hit Talia making her cry out in pain and shock. Talia had told him later it had not really hurt it had come as more of a shock and that was what had made her cry out, but he did remember seeing a mark on Talia’s face the following day. Bur what had made matters worse was that H’ton had hit Talia right in front of one of her brother’s E’lric, who did not take it to kindly that H’ton had hit his sister and had grabbed H’ton and hit him several time’s. This started a big fight which had to he broken up by several other riders. Since then E’lric has been disciplined and forbidden by H’ton to enter the weyr while H’ton was there. H’ton realised that that was also harsh on Talia who adored her big brother and this had caused many a fight between Talia and himself. All that said and done H’ton know that Talia wrote to her brother, he expected that was what she was doing now or they would meet at their parents Hold. H’ton expected that to be a kind of slap in the face to him. He had said banned from the weyr, not the weyr and its territory. H’ton took another sip of the wine before he spoke. “And what if i am? You had no right to agree to any thing with out asking me first” H’ton said in a stern tone trying not to start a shouting match

“If i had waited for you to make up your mind, we would have 4 queens ready to mate 5 if you include Quinith and for one do not want a Queen fight in the weyr. To many queens in a weyr is dangerous you should know that” Talia said looking up from her letter to Nilla. Talia tried to keep her voice calm not start shouting at H’ton even if he was being a dead glow about the whole thing. “What is wrong with letting Top Point take two queens? They need them and they said it would be an open flight so there is a strong chance one of the riders form her could end up being the Top Point Weyrleader and that will come in hand for when the wings have to fly together” Talia said pointing all of this out to her H’ton

H’ton know Talia was getting at how often he had pulled rank about her being Hold bred and him being Weyr bred and how he know more about weyr life than she. Oh Talia had been quick to pick up the way of things in a weyr, like most others and H’ton had to admire that Talia’s parents had not spoiled Talia or even E’lric and Galen who H’ton had only met once but from what H’ton had seen of the eldest child in Talia’s family, he liked and though he would make a good Holder. The youngest he had never met, he know she was at the Harper Hall and that from all that Talia said Nilla was the spoilt one, but Talia said that she thought that was down to Nilla nearly dieing at birth. What H’ton did know about Nilla was that like himself she could not stand E’lric, why he did not know but he would make a point in asking the little Harper when he eventually met her. He know deep down Talia was right about the over crowdedness of the Queens and that it could lead to a fight among the queens. Shards that had not happened in 1000’s of turns and H’ton was dammed if he would let it happen while he was Weyrleader. The chance for an open flight both pleased a distressed him. As like Talia had said the chance was one of the bronze riders from this weyr would likely catch the queen, he didn’t know the preferences of the two eldest riders, they could have weyrmates already. He know who the youngest queen rider liked and he detested that choice in rider as much as he did E’lric. Yes B’hamut was a good rider and well disciplined and he and his bronze had took them through to place every high in rankings for the All Weyr Games, but still he was a Top Point rider who Talia had taken in out of the goodness of her heart. Talia said “he judged the lad too quickly” and “You need to read his transfer papers, to understand him” H’ton didn’t have time to read the papers and when he had asked Talia about what they said she said “I am not telling you, you can read them for yourself. If you whish to remain stupidly ignorant that was his choice, she was not going to change that” those papers had remained on his desk for a month, they where most likely still there now half a turn later. If they where he would try and read them, see what she was going on about. But what chilled him to the bone was that if it was an open flight that meant that any bronze could enter and that also meant E’lric and H’ton dreaded the though of having him as the Top Point Weyrleader as it would mean he could come to East Cliff as he would hold equal rank to H’ton. “We still should have talked about it first” he said then going on to add “and there wont be a Queen fight and i know it is dangerous to have this many queens in one weyr, but you could help by getting Quinith to let Bronith catch her sooner. Rather than him chasing her all over the weyr….” H’ton regretted all of that the moment it all came out, he loved Talia he really did, but they always seamed to have a fight just be for Quinith was meant to rise to mate and that meant they where at each other and Talia didn’t wanted to talk to him or be near him and when it came to the Dragons part it meant that Quinith was powered by Talia’s strong desire to get away from Bronith and H’ton. This resulted in a long flight that was always needed to produce a good sized clutch and a queen egg, even when this weyr did not need one. H’ton was always clad though that the dragons always know how to resolve this fight.
< If we did not, there would be no weyr to chase her around>> Bronith said to his rider he had been listening in on his riders thoughts. Yes the dragons know best, their riders fought over silly things
<”Thank you i did not ask for that”> H’ton sent back typical dragon listening in when they shouldn’t.

Talia was all ready to shot at H’ton for his last part, if he was not such a dead glow and didn’t keep wanting do things his way they would not get into a fight before a flight. But she saw the look on his face, she know that he know he had said too much. She got up crossing the room taking the cup from his hands and placed it on the table, she put her arm’s round his neck looking up at him. “Come on you know Bronith love’s chasing Quinith and you love chasing me” She said kissing his lips. She moved her hand slowly his body

H’ton was a bit surprised by Talia’s action, coming over to him and kissing him. He stopped her hand before it went to low. He was not ready to play just yet. “I have been working up a good mad all day and I am NOT about to let you ruin it by trying to a peal to my better nature” He said but returned her kiss.

Talia know he wouldn’t be that easily swayed, but it was worth a try and anyway she had not given up trying yet. “I didn’t know you had a better nature” Talia said in a sweet tone kissing him more passionately. The decision had been made whether H’ton liked it or not, but she could at least try and sweeten him towards the thought that Top Point would behold to them and that it would most likely be a East Cliff rider for the next Top Point Weyr leader

H’ton held her close to him, this was a new tactic Talia was playing, normally they would have been screaming at each other by now but instead Talia was trying to soave his anger and change his way of thinking, he had to admit there was a few riders he would not mind seeing as the Top Point Weyrleader. Though the thought of being behold to a warmer weyr would have pleased him better, Top Point did turn out top and well disciplined riders. “You are a tricky women” he said looking down at Talia kissing her.

When their lips broke apart Talia said “I know but would you want me any other way, if i didn’t fight with you and challenge you, you would get board” kissing him again

H’ton held his weyrmate close to him, it was true his life would be very boring, but he wished she would not just make decisions with out talking to him. It would make him look like he could not control the Weyr, yes a weyr needed a strong weyr women, none so true as Top Point, but still what was he to do? Most of the weyr know about Talia’s action and to his great annoyance, they supported her action’s.

Talia waited for H’ton’s response. She didn’t know what else to say and do to try and calm his temper. It would do her self and the weyr no good for the weyrleader to be so annoyed that he would not listen to simple reason and method. She lay her head on his chest hugging him, yes they had fights that could make the watch wher howl but they still loved each other at the end or the day. “I know your angry at me and you should be, but i was trying to do what is best for the weyr” Talia said in a soft voice. She would give in this one time and save the weyr from all the storming and shouting that normally followed a fight.

H’ton gave her a squeeze “I know” he said to her “Come on then lets get this sorted out” he said pointing to the table.

Talia nodded, at least they where not shouting at each other that was a good thing. She broke away from H’ton and walked over to the table moving her letter and putting it on her shelf and pulled out the record she had been using. “I’ve only made up my mind on one to go but we do need two to go to give us flight room” Talia said looking at H’ton and made ready in case he started up again.

H’ton watched Talia move her writing gear and saw the half written letter, who was she writing to? He wondered if she was telling E’lric about their fight. No he would not start about Talia’s brother, it would just start a fight nether of them wanted or needed. He collected another glass of wine handing it to Talia as he joined her at the table. “So who is the one you have in mind to go?” he asked

“Well i thought Rio, she’s young and so is her dragon so she can adapt over time to the weather” Talia said hoping that this was a good sign that they would not fight over this

“Rio?” H’ton said looking at his weyrmate “can she even go between yet” He asked thinking it a bit silly to send a just hatched Gold to help run a weyr. “Isn’t there another Gold to send?”

Talia looked at H’ton, what had be been doing this past seven day, he had obviously missed the whole part of Rio going off to do he training to jump between with K’ttak and B’hamut and coming back with only K’ttak. Talia had got the full story off K’ttak when he had had come told her. Talia had not been very impressed and had told K’ttak she would have word with Rio she had no right to act like that towards another rider even if she did not like them. “Yes she can K’ttak took her on her first jumps between the weyrs at the start of this seven day” Talia pointed out she would not mention how Rio had act, she didn’t want to cause more trouble

“What, he took a young gold go between with just a brown as an escort?” H’ton he asked. He know K’ttak was a good ride and had turned out good weyrlings who in turn were good riders but still just a brown, a young Gold needed at least a bronze. “Why wasn’t a bronze sent with her”
