The world of pokemon has changed, battling used to be a way to grow with your beloved companions, to learn and progress through life, on a grand adventure. That world of pokemon has been left far behind, now pokemon are tools, items to be used in a blood sport to feed the masses and their bloodthristy need.
Over the years the media has been a major influence of the darkening world of battling, more and more people tuned into the more violent battles, more bets were put on pokemon, and less care was taken to ensure the safety of the once beloved partners. Now pokemon battles are like dog fights, some battles even going so far as to fight to the death. Now the winning trainers are rewarded greatly, the losers often retreat to pokemon centers with pokemon in desperate need for medical care.
Gyms have ceased to exist now, instead massive arenas take their place, these often have massive spectator stands, and this new world is thick with cigarette smoke, betting tables, and many other vicious things. Sex, money, and drugs are often traded around in this low life hotspot faster than battles are staked.. But the wild is far more dangerous than these arenas, at least in the arenas there is normally two or three Nurse Joy's lingering around, fighting other trainers in the wild often leads to more of the damaging battles, for trainers normally have to run to get their pokemon to medical safety. For placing them in pokeballs does not stop the injuries.
The stronger, victorious pokemon though, their trainers are viewed as heros. And more often than not they are lavished with gifts and riches, as well as the adoration of the masses. Very rarely do one of these trainers even think about the well being of their pokemon, even more rarely do they think of actually nurturing for the tools of war that are their pokemon. Often though will these trainers seek out stronger and stronger pokemon, some even going to the lengths of stealing another persons pokemon to save themselves the trouble of training them themselves.
Because of this, wild pokemon have retreated away from the human cities, only the stupidly brave and the battle broken linger in the alleyways between buildings now. Now pokemon linger in the far reaches of the world, in places where humans cannot get to, small little places where pokemon can live freely and away from the violent world of the humans.
Only a few honest trainers still linger around, trying to scratch out a living in a world where their pokemon are wanted to be used as tools, killed in front of hundreds of viewers in person, and videotaped to be seen again and again. But that is the world now, the only question is.
Will you survive?
