Name Zaira
Gender Female
Age 20
Pet(s) None
Appearance Zaira's height is above average for a woman at 5'7. While her frame is slender, she has the prominent curves of a woman, a fact she is very proud of and uses to her advantage over many a starry-eyed male. Zaira has wide hazel eyes, brown around the pupil and green further away.
Her skin is very pale and burns easily, with a smattering of freckles over nose and cheek. Her hair is straight and a deep auburn hanging halfway down her back, but she almost always wears it in plaits or braids, adorning it with coloured ribbons. Zaira's nose is distinctly crooked, recently acquired due to an altercation between herself and another woman, which became a little more than an exchanging of heated words.
Personality Zaira is a very confident young woman, who is not afraid to voice her feelings and offer an opinion, often when neither have been asked for. She may come across as domineering due to her stubbornness, temper and sharp tongue, but it can also be part of her charm. Zaira's confidence extends to her appearance. She knows men find her attractive and revels in the knowledge, but often takes things too far landing herself into trouble.
Zaira does not believe in long term relationships, both her parents had many partners and this seemed the norm to her until she was sent to the Harper Hall and came across some Hold bred girls who were shocked at Zaira's promiscuous habits, and avoided her as if she were a tunnel snake. For this reason she has few friends amongst the Harper Hall, although she is very protective of the ones she has.
History Zaira was the daughter of a union between blue rider Z'rin and a Fort Hold seamstress, Ariya. Although the relationship between the two only lasted a few short weeks after the birth of their daughter, the parents both got along quite well. While Zaira was brought up by her mother and lived with Ariya's ever increasing brood of children (almost all had different fathers) Zaira also saw a lot of her father, who doted on his only daughter. It was from her father that Zaira's love for music and the stories of Pern stemmed and at the age of 12 Turns the obvious choice was made and she was apprenticed to the Harper Hall.
While Zaira enjoyed the training at the Hall, once the initial excitement of moving had worn off, life became a monotonous routine of exercises and chores. During this time Zaira changed from gangly child into a woman, and began noticing the attention directed her way. While at first she was awkward around males her confidence grew with her experience and by the time she was 17 Turns Zaira knew how make the most of her appeal.
However her escapades got her into various predicaments despite her discretion, including a fight with another Harper, Doyna. It was just after Zaira walked the tables and became a journeywoman, when she spent a night with brown rider X'tren. Doyna had been pining after the rider and accused Zaira of stealing the man away from her. Zaira retaliated with a sarcastic comment and Donya took offence, breaking the taller girls nose, which sparked Zaira's temper. Both girls ended up in the infirmary covered in bruises and bleeding and when the Hall Master was informed of the incident he was not amused. This was not the first time he had heard complaint of Zaira, and he had already issued her a warning to be careful of her behaviour. As a result he sent her on an assignment to Top Point Weyr, no Harper would agree to go there willingly. Zaira has just arrived at what will be her new home for at least the next two Turns.
Other Zaira has many brothers and sisters scattered around Pern, including F'ariyan (18 Turns) rider of bronze Laronith of Fort Weyr.
Job Journeywoman Harper- Teaches the children their Ballads, and performs at Gathers and the occasional dinner for entertainment.
