“Whats wrong with me?!” Malon sobbed pitfully sitting with his head in folded arms on the damp wooden dock with his feet hanging over the edge. “Am I not a good lover?!” he cried out to his green flitt Dabble who rested on his shoulder. Dabble rubbed her head against his trying to comfort him and cooed softly. Raising his head a bit to look at his green and to give her a pat of thanks and he seemed to have gotten over his troubles. “Why does she not love me?” With a cringe, Malon's eyes closed tightly shut and he threw his head back into his arms crying.
To say the least this was a very normal sight. Not that he ever intended for anyone to see him crying, but he did often over his broken heart. Today though he was fortunate. Many people would be out at the hatching at Top Point Weyr and today the fisherman were taking a day off. Not many would come down to a foggy wet dock at the far end of the pier, thus making it an ideal place to have a breakdown. Nobody could hear him out here, or so he thought, he had no idea how loud he really was being.
Malon's body shook as the tears rolled down his face. ”Why do I always hurt so much? Why does nobody love me like I do them?..” he thought in his melodramatic sorrow. Despite his obvious search for solitude away from everyone else, all he really wanted was to be held in comforting arms. Sure he had his flitt who was always there for him like a watchful mother, but it wasn't the same. All that did was console him in knowledge that he was not completely alone, all Dabble really could offer to him was the type of love of a close aunt so it was like having family with him still. He didn't yearn for his family at all right now though, they did not even cross his mind. His lonely heart really did hurt him a fair bit having been in many failed relationships with no amount of consistency; it only increased his heart ache. Of all the things he desired right now, it was the love of a partner.

Talex walked lazily down to the dock’s fishing line in hand, his brothers were off in H’ton’s wing hunting south where there was more beast. Normally Talex could have tagged along with his brother T’ibbar, but with H’ton deciding to go with the wing today Talex was leaf behind to mull about the weyr. Even Talia was off at Top Point as guest for the hatching there, now Talex would have thought H’ton would have gone to, but the chances were that E’lric would be there and H’ton wouldn’t be in the same weyr as that man. It was a shame as Talex quite liked E’lric he had a dry sense of humour.
Talex took the steps along the dock checking the live bate he had caught for the day. He had had to keep them hidden and out of the way as he know a good few didn’t like the bugs and may throw the tub out. Talex heard the voice of someone talking or shouting as he rounded the corner seeing Malon on the dock. “so much for a peaceful day fishing” he thought. “Hello” Talex said walking along the dock closet to the boy

When Dabble picked up the notice that another human was here she immediately stopped stroking Malon and after a few seconds of thinking she took off to go join up with Malon's other flitt, Klootz. It was unlike her to totally ditch her oh so cherished mine but considering the fact that Malon wouldn't be completely alone it seemed fine, not like he'd really notice her leaving. He was far too much of a wreck to realize such things especially if his thoughts were distracted by the speaking of another. Even a protective and loyal flitt like Dabble can get tired of his whining, she'd likely scold him later.
Like a sniveling child Malon lifted his blotchy face from his arms and gave the boy a sideways look with eyes that just screamed for pity. “..Hello.” He said gently as he re-adjusted himself to a normal seating position. Bringing his arms up to clear the tears off his face and move away the mass of messy auburn-brown hair away from his face. His slouchy posture did very little for first impressions. On a normal day he'd care but he was too miserable to care. Sniffing once he finally picked up an almost dirty earthen smell briefly before dismissing it as the smell of damp wood and sea water. Dirt and such never bothered him much so it was of little bother like everything else right now.
Taking another quick look over the boy who seemed to be a bit younger than himself but the moment he noticed the blue eyes that he had Malon's head tilted back to gaze at the sky and then hung for in his hands as he began to sob again. “She had blue eyes too!” he thought to himself. Reverting back into his self-centered world of heart-ache and melancholy his sense of space and area began to go again. As Malon began to fall over he missed lying down on the dock where he thought he'd land and rather he tumbled as a whole into the cold see waters. Opening up his eyes under the water he swam up a bit to the surface of the dark water with a look of utter bewilderment and shock on his face. He definitely didn't see that one coming.

Talex moved a bit as the Firelizard darted out thank goodness it had left. He didn’t like them to much. “Hi you ok?” Talex said it didn’t take geniuses to realise this lad was up set. Talex realised also that he was older than him maybe but 2-3 turns. Talex regretted the words the moment he opened his mouth as the lad seemed get upset and then seemed to sway and then fall off the dock into the water. Talex dropped the tub and line leaping onto one of the boats and grabbing an oar and handing it out to the other Lad. “Here grab this…” Talex said holding on to the side of the boat so not to tip it and go in himself, his mother would go between if he got wet…she know they didn’t do a lot of their own washing in the weyr but it didn’t mean they gave the wash worker’s more to do.

Before he knew it the boy was quickly making his way over to help him. It only confused him further. Previously being a kitchen-boy, no more like a drudge-boy, at Keroon Hold for three turns made this a very unexpected gesture to him. Anytime anything had gone wrong he was just scolded or told to fix his own problems, rarely did anyone offer help. Not only that but he'd spent so much time away from the other Weyrfolk since he arrived at East Cliff Weyr he never really got to know anyone, who would help a perfect stranger? Grabbing onto the ore that the boy held out to him he pulled himself into the boat hanging his head down. "Sorry about that, my name's Malon, I'm 'supposed' to be a candidate here. I don't think I stand a chance at it." he made a small smile to his pettiness. "Ahh, he must think I'm a total idiot. ..She must think that too." Malon thought to himself over that display of drama and carelessness.
Consciously avoiding his eyes he asked, "Say, is there anyway I can pay you back? I can do whatever chores you may have." After saying that he realized that the fellow had asked him a question he turned his head away being a mope and pretending that he never heard the question be asked.

Talex heaved the boy into the boat holding onto the dock to steady the boat. “Yeah i took you as a candidate… haven’t seen you with use playing hoop ball...” Talex said trying to avoid the boat tipping. “Don’t be a dead glow there’s been worse Hold brats than you come to the weyr…at least you not screaming an running away from the dragons” Talex said as he was happy to get the boat steady and climbed to the dock sitting on it using his legs to help steady the boat for Malon to get back on the dock. “I’m Talex son of G’when brown rider of Greath and Sheran green rider of Leegrath” Talex said introducing himself. Talex noticed Malon avoid looking him in the eyes. It was something his brothers had told him some of the Hold drudge didn’t make eye contact with those of rank. “Don’t do that” Talex said when he saw it, it was something the weyr never did even with there own drudge and workers. By the first shell the head woman just this morning had belted him one for pinching some roots, so they got respect.

"I'm not much of an athlete. I'm into.. other things." He stated as he got off the boat thanking the fellow. He felt around in his pocket for a paper. Finding it he barely pulled it out of his pocket and all ready he could tell all of his precious writing was gone. His precious scripting, that he wrote when he first came to East Point over in the record room. Quickly he shoved it back into his pocket. Telling a girl that you wrote plays and had a love for theatre was one thing but telling another male candidate about your love for dramatic arts wasn't going to make you well liked. A dramatic actor who's a candidate for a dragon hatching. A sensitive guy being thrown onto the hot sands that hungry vicious baby dragons would emerge onto. It truly sounded like a massacre, telling Talex would probably be a massacre of what respect he had among the other male candidates. Besides, what male didn't like athletics? That was just absurd for a potential dragonrider especially!
"I'm not a hold brat, I'm 19 turns of age!" Malon quickly corrected Talex giving him a slightly scrutinizing eye. That look couldn't last long on his face though, it just wasn't part of his personality. Seriousness and scolding was never his thing, that was better left to his green flitt Dabble who seemed to still be on the dock with Klootz. Both of them had fallen to sleep though. "My 'parents' are brownrider Vn'aw of Ista Weyr and greenrider Yuranoa of Igen Weyr." Parents was a term he used very loosely, he knew well enough that neither parent would ever admit that they had 8 children together. It was amazing that they acknowledged the children's existance. It was a bad relationship between his parents, perhaps it was genetic? Perhaps thats why he had such a hard time with his love life. "It may not seem it but most of my turns have been spent in Weyrs."

Talex raised an eyebrow tat Malon “So you’re a weyr brat like myself and many of the others” Talex said reaching over grabbing his line and the tube with the bate in it happy to see not all of it had escaped. “Na you don’t seam to come off as though you been brought up in a weyr” Talex said knowing he may have come off a bit rued before, but a lot of hold born candidates had strange notions about children born in the weyr. “So how come your all the way over here at East Cliff and not being a candidate at Igen? Or were you meant to go to Top Point?” Talex wouldn’t mind a look up at Top Point he had grown up with the story that place turned out. Though none of his brothers would take him for a look as they said they never planned on going and Talex shouldn’t have any plans on going ether.

"Yeah, but I never grew up in 'a' Weyr. I spent most of my years at both Igen and Ista. You see both Vn'aw and Yuranoa were orphans so they didn't really know their background, and since they refuse to admit that my siblings and I are their offspring it makes us all backgroundless." Malon responded with a fake chuckle. "So I suppose you could say I'm a spare part of Pern. I'm not always needed in one spot but when a Weyr or a Hold decide that they need somebody I get transferred right on over and if they don't need me anymore then I go somewhere else. So on and so forth." It wasn't too bad though having such a mobile life. He certainly did get to visit a lot of places on Pern and met folk from all around the Northern Continent. He wouldn't have Dabble and Klootz either if it weren't for his luck in being at a flitt hatching during a Gathering at Ruatha.
It was so amusing to him. Rather than feel depressed when it came to talking of his rather broken history it did him good, talking about it even though a good percent of his life must have been spent on just telling people about his life. "I haven't been to a Weyr for more than a few days at a time in 3 turns. I have though been to Top Point once when the Search-rider was taking me here to East Cliff. I've spent the last 3 turns of my life doing kitchen-boy work at Keroon Hold. Drudge was a better title for my work, they only called me a kitchen-boy because they knew I was Weyr-bred and it'd be disgraceful to call me a drudge." This time Malon actually laughed. Holdfolk certainly were strange, he may have been Weyr-bred but that certainly did not make him any better than any of the other folk. Being called a drudge would have felt a lot better to him. It would have made those three years less awkward having a status stuck between hold-boy and drudge made conversing a challenge. He didn't have a set group of people to call friends. Well, on the brightside he was allowed to go to Gatherings and watch plays all day. He did quite miss those days now being at East Cliff Weyr. As his eyes eyes scanned over the dock and back out to the water he asked, "So Talex, we're you ever planning on being a fisher at all?"

Talex had been putting bate on his line as he listened to Malon talk. ”That’s a bit of a stupid way to look at thing…sorry not meaning to scorch your parents but in front of you but that kind of thinking is more that of the Holdless, but your back ground can start as soon as you come to the weyr… i mean my grand father was from Half-circle, but he was searched and most of his back ground is weyr related and no matter what people say everyone has a back ground and you just told me a good bit of yours ” Talex said casting the line.
Talex raised an eyebrow when Malon said he had been to Top Point for a bit before coming here. “Aye well if others ask just tell them who your parents are, you wont get any of the Hold brat stick that some of the others get” Knowing the slight friction between weyr kids and Hold kids nit to bad when the weyr kids went to Holds for fostering as a good few were impressed by the weyr kids but the Hold kids brought to the weyr a lot of strange ideas and sometimes frictions happened they just didn’t let the weyr leader find our or even as a dragonet they would send you to Top Point, but it all changed when they impressed on the sand. “ it’s a disgraceful your parents didn’t think enough of you to send you to another weyr for fostering. My ma foster’s one hold kid for a turn just to get use to the weyr, mind sends one of use to the hold to be fostered by our great aunt in Half-circle, for a turn also to learn another trade…this turn its my sisters turn” Talex said it had been along turn Talex hadn’t much liked fishing, he liked it as a pass time but not as a way of life, also he had missed T’ibbar as Half-circle was bound to Benden so T’ibbar didn’t do wing drills near the hold and another thing that he hated was the place was over run with those flying pest Firelizards, and at that time Talex couldn’t stay in a run with the things in fear they would try and scratch his eyes out like the gold had tried to done. “Na never even gave it a though, i’ve wanted to be a dragon rider before i could say the word…though maybe working with the watch wher’s they seam a bit of a less thought of Draconic beast, mean everyone wants to be a rider or have a firelizard, but no one wants them. but this pass we need the watch wher as we have been getting night fall…ever been out in a night fall?” Talex asked

"Ehn, scorch 'em all you want. I don't have a proper bloodline. I'm actually rather jealous of people like you." Malon stated peering over at Talex but still keeping non-direct eye contact. "I wish my family was like yours. To know so much of your family must really be great and to get to see your siblings and relatives." He smiled to himself privately as the memories of his early childhood came back to him. The days in which all 7 of his siblings and him were still together. He could remember all their faces so well but many turns had past since then and he'd no idea where they were or if they were alive. Contact had been lost long ago so they could honestly be anywhere.
"Telling lowly ranked holdfolk who your parents are leads nowhere. A lot of them are fairly ignorant because they are completely uneducated and many that I met could barely read or write legibly even!" It was rather amazing how stupid some people could be. "An' dey dunt qu'te git how ta speak. Sew tell'n 'em who yer folk 'ar dunt mean nudd'n to 'em." He added on doing a good impression of their voice. Voices were one of the many things he'd come to be good at after practicing acting so much.
"Naw, I've never been out. The Weyrs and Holds always said it was too dangerous so I was locked up in my barracks." Malon said with a shrug of his shoulders.

“No you don’t not with 3 older brother and getting all the hand-me-down and one down fall about being in the weyr…Everyone knows who you are and worst of all who your parents are and if you do something wrong they go tell” Talex said, he laughed as Malon mimicked a holder. “who’s sharding egg was that cracked that they told you a silly thing like its was to dangerous for you to be out and in another weyr… that’s cracked that is” Talex said thinking that some people had a lot to answer for from where Malon had come from

"I never got hand-me-downs really, there were a few items I got from my brother but most things I owned were new. Vn'aw and Yuranoa both have managed to earn up a fair amount of marks and I'm one of the eldest of my siblings so I got things easy." He said with a shrug and almost pitying his youngest siblings who really never did own many new things because they had so many hand-me-downs. "All the pressures of other kids to go and play tricks on the Headwoman and those grouchy riders.." He laughed getting up the courage to look at Talex briefly in the eye with a side glance and a smirk, "I'm guessing that you were one of the ruckus causing kids who the Headwoman was always yelling at threatening to tell your parents?" Slowly in his mind all his thoughts on that pretty blue eyed girl started to escape. He wasn't really thinking about her anymore, which for Dabble especially this was a blessing of Faranath. His laugh was far more pleasant than his wails and overall he was a far friendlier and more open person when he was happy.
"The dimwitted folk who supervised me! Needless to say I've found ways to leave and wander around before for a few seven-days at a time." A toothy grin came across his face. When he was younger getting away and traveling around was easy, it'd take them too long long to notice a boy of 11 turns was missing when he'd only arrived a few days prior and saying you got lost while getting some stuff was a perfect way to make a getaway for a day. He got caught most of the time though and that eventually led to him not being allowed to go on anymore adventures.

”Yeah but like you said you’re the oldest and the oldest child in the family always gets the new stuff…i hope i at least get a nearly new riding jacket i know my brother’s all did.” Talex said though T’ibbar had said he could have the one he had had as a weyrling, which T’ibbar had grown out of very quickly. “Not was… is…still am the headwomen just this morning belted me one over the head for pinching roots” Talex pointed out. ”and she is not past belting the older riders when they pinch roots… so watch what you do in the kitchen Talex said warning Malon.
”Good glad to hear you dint let them keep you under their thumb” Talex said he could think of himself living in a hold were they tried to hide you away for the world.

Hearing that Talex had to even hope to get new gear was rather unfortunate to hear. "I'll buy you you some new riding gear as pay back for you getting me out of the water. I own a fair bundle of marks, I get more almost weekly." He said with a friendly grin and added in, "Don't think you can stop me either." It was handy being an actor and a playwright. He didn't get too many marks from it usually but it was still good enough for someone who would likely never get the chance to take his work to the top. "Hm... I should probably clean up the record room before nightfall then." He said pensively. He never was one who could tolerate belting well. It was still better to him than being left alone or to have people dismayed by his actions. "I really should put back those books and papers that I pulled out to study." Well it was still mid-morning so he wasn't in much of a rush to get back and clean up. Malon doubted the headwoman would even have time to go and check the record room at all. What was a few books and hides out of place anyways?

“No…you don’t have to…I’ll get a new one when I’m a rider any way part of walking the table and stuff…and any how if i get a jacket i would rather it be T’ibbars old one as he hit a real growth spirt when he impressed his brown Serkth so only wore his a few times…so his is still new.” Talex said he didn’t want paying back for helping get him out of the water. “If you want you can buy the Bubbly pie at the next gather” Talex said thinking that a better option and would cost the less marks.
”Don’t worry she doesn’t go down the record room much, though you might hear something off K’ttak, he’s the weyrling master or maybe B’hamut as he spends a lot of his time down there and may not be happy you messing them up, but he’s been moved into H’tons wing so he’s off hunting south with his Bronze Sephiroth… mind he’s a big one that one and mean in a mating flight… if i impress a bronze i hope his is as big as him” Talex said knowing it was ideal dreams and the hatching would tell all.

"Its a deal then." Malon replied with a smile. He really was looking forward to another gather soon.
"Perhaps I should leave going back till night." Malon thought to himself aloud, "I'd have a better chance of not getting caught."

“The wing will be away all day hunting, as dragons cant go between well on full stomach’s, it turns to ice. So the dragons will have to sleep their meals off and the riders use the time to collect stuff to bring back North. Ever been South?... I have T’ibbar took me with him a few time, you ever seen one of those big felines that live there?” Talex asked knowing that the South was still a bit closed after a lot of volcanic activity and ground move shakes, which had sent a lot of the settles scampering back North. “When I get my dragon I hope I get posted in the South or maybe in the West where E’lric is in Sunset beach, but I want to stay near the sea and not be in land Like the one at Cliff Valley”

T’vin was wondering about K’ttak had finished the lesson and he was free to wonder and do what he wanted. He had gone to the kitchen but they were busy and Talex’s mother had been complaining about her youngest son never being round for a hear cut.
T’vin made his way to the docks hearing voices and heard the words “Cliff Valley” That’s where he was form. He walked in seeing Talex sitting with a line and a very wet looking boy.
T’vin walked up to them “Your mums looking for you Talex did you know that?” he said to the boy he know

Talex turned round seeing T’vin, this kid did grind on him a bit as he was 4 turns younger than Talex but still a rider. But Talex know it was down to his parents the chose not to let him stand till he was 16 turns as they felt it made for better riders.
Talex leaned back a bit “Yeah most likely…she wants give me a hear cut Talex hated his mother cutting his hear he liked it long and messy it helped hide his scare better.
